Hepatitis C Elimination programme

We have recently been lucky enough to work in partnership with Cambridge University Hospital and the HCV team from Ipswich Hospital on a Hepatitis C Elimination Programme.
The NHS is working with the World Health Organisation to eliminate Hep C by 2030.
Hepatitis C (HCV) is spread when infected blood enters your body. Around 70,000 people in England don’t know they have Hep C. It is now a curable disease but half of the people who carry the virus are not aware of it.
We identified 1786 patients, of those 47 patient booked appointments for a free, simple finger prick test. From those 47 patients 1 patient hepatitis C antibody positive was identified but was found to be HCV RNA negative so no referral for treatment was required.
We’d like to thank Cambridge University Hospital for choosing to work with us on this project.
